Visit to Palazzo Florio - Favignana

Favignana is full of monuments and places of interest that you can visit during your stay. First of all, and you will notice it as soon as you arrive on the island by hydrofoil, is Palazzo Florio.

It is a magnificent neo-Gothic style building, built in 1878 to a design by one of the most famous architects of the time, Damiani Almeyda. While presenting itself externally as a stately and aristocratic palace, inside the serious style of the neo-Gothic style is made lighter and at the same time elegant with Art Nouveau furnishings and splendid wrought iron, the work of the Oreta dei Florio foundry.

Palazzo Florio was connected by underground to the Pretti where the kitchens, stables and servants' rooms were connected. The palace was not only the residence of the Florio family, but also a place where illustrious people invited to Favignana during the slaughter period were hosted, the bloody and at the same time suggestive tuna fishing.

The palace was not only a social and holiday destination for the Florio family and its guests, but also a refuge from the stress and sorrows of life. Right here Donna Franca spent a long period after the death of her daughter Giovanna.

A visit to the recently restored Palazzo Florio is certainly an experience not to be missed to breathe an air of history and art that offer unique emotions.
